概述

The Certificate in 德国 for Professionals and Educators is designed to develop professional grade 德国 language skills, 加深对德国文化的了解, 并获得先进的跨文化能力. The 程序 includes an international component (summer or one semester study in Salzburg). High school teachers may add an additional 3 credit hours course to fulfill Ohio’s College Credit Plus requirements.

The certificate 程序 builds on the international expertise offered by BGSU. It includes a summer study abroad component (3 or 6 weeks, may be repeated). Summer component coupled with evening and distance courses allow candidates to ascertain the certificate without interruption to their existing careers.

While the certificate 程序 offers an alternative to the M.A. in 德国, credits earned for the Certificate can also be used as part of the M.A. 程序.

学习成果

学生 who complete the Certificate in 德国 for Professionals and Educators will attain “Advanced Low” or higher (following ACTFL guidelines) proficiency in 德国. They will also be able to apply cultural knowledge of the 德国 speaking world in personal contexts.

The 程序 also trains students to utilize advanced intercultural competence — compare and assess cultural similarities and differences between North Americans and Central Europeans. 学生 will be able to demonstrate the ability to interact in professional contexts with Central Europeans, as well as navigate and analyze daily life traveling and living in Europe.

The certificate addresses the need of professionals working for businesses or organizations with ties to a 德国 speaking country. The EU remains the 2nd largest trading partner of Ohio (after Canada). 德国, Austria and Switzerland have powerful economies (in export numbers rivaling China) and many connections to Ohio.

The certificate is also ideal for teachers of 德国 at high schools who have to take graduate level courses for certification. High school teachers may add an additional 3 credit hours course to fulfill Ohio’s College Credit Plus requirements.

入学要求

The 程序 strongly recommends that applicants have a minimum 2.7/4.0本科平均绩点(GPA). Applicants are required to submit an official transcript from all colleges and universities attended. The GRE is not required for admission to BGSU certificate 程序s.

All applicants must submit two letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose (2-3 pages) outlining their experience with 德国, their professional goals and the research interests they wish to pursue.

International applicants are also required to submit scores from the Test of 英语 as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International 英语 Language Testing System (IELTS)
